Our story

Three generations, one promise

Yoos Agency has provided quality insurance protection since 1947, when Fred Yoos, Jr. became an independent agent. In 1962 the agency moved to its current location on Burmont Road, and our principles are the same now as they were then.

From personal to commercial lines, we have the experience to build coverage tailored to your needs at a price that makes sense. The work has always been the same: compare carriers honestly, explain the differences plainly, and place each policy where it genuinely fits.

The timeline

From 1947 to today

1947. Fred Yoos, Jr. becomes an independent insurance agent, and the agency that bears the family name begins.
1958. The home office years: Fred Yoos, Jr. as President, Frances Yoos as Secretary-Treasurer, and Fred G. “Bud” Yoos as Vice President.
1962. The agency moves to 780 Burmont Road in Drexel Hill, where it still operates today.
Today. Independent, family-run, and appointed with multiple national carriers, serving households and businesses across the region.

What the word means

What independent actually means

An independent agency holds appointments with multiple insurance carriers rather than working for one. We currently represent Travelers, Safeco, Progressive, National General, and The Philadelphia Contributionship, and every recommendation we make had to win a comparison first.

The structure decides whose side the agent is on. A captive agent’s job is to sell one company’s products. Ours is to place your risk well, wherever that happens to be this year, and to move it when the answer changes. The comparison and the counsel are the product. The policy just happens to come with them.

Is Yoos Insurance still family-run?

Yes. Three generations of the Yoos family have run the agency since 1947, from the same Burmont Road corner since 1962. The people answering the phone work a few feet from where the decisions get made.

What areas do you serve?

Most clients are nearby in Drexel Hill and the surrounding towns, and our Pennsylvania licence covers the whole state, so distance never forces a change of agent.

What insurance do you write?

Personal lines from auto and home through umbrella and classic cars, and commercial lines from general liability and workers comp through cyber and employment practices coverage. Every line is compared across our carriers before we recommend anything.
